Frequently Asked Questions: Customers

What is the NLAS?
The Newfoundland Art Store. The NLAS is an online gallery and marketplace for artwork by Newfoundland Artists. It primarily functions as a "back end" for artists' own websites, but also has this public gallery, a "factory outlet" so to speak for those who choose to be included.

How do I... see a slide show/larger view/other site feature?
Click here for a brief video tour of the site functions that explains the features.

Do you have a "real world" gallery?
No. The NLAS is an online gallery only.

Are you artists' agents?
Not as such. We handle online sales for artists on a non-exclusive basis and promote the store.

Can I talk to the artists directly?
Of course. Use the Contact Us page for that.

Do you just have images of Newfoundland scenes, and fish and stuff?
No. Subject matter is whatever the artist wishes. We do not curate.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept most credit cards via Pay Pal.

How do you ship?
We ship worldwide via Canada Post and insured. Items over 500$ are shipped via courier.

Frequently Asked Questions: Artists

I'm an artist. Can I put my work in the NLAS?
Maybe. If you are an artist living and working in NL you are eligible. If you are a Newfoundlander away or an artist living away who does work of interest to Newfoundlanders contact us with details.

I don't have my own website. Can I still put my work in the NLAS?
It is not required that you have a website.

Can I sell my work elsewhere?
Anywhere you please. The NLAS is simply a venue for you to use.

How do I get my artworks to the store?
You don't. The NLAS is an online store only. The NLAS takes orders for artwork and we notify the artist who sends the piece directly to the customer.

I see your copyright notice. Who has the rights to the artwork?
The artist maintains all rights to the work. Our copyright covers the presentation materials on the site.

Who decides what work goes on the site and sets the prices?
You do. We do not curate (though we reserve the right to refuse any works we deem inappropriate or offensive).

What does it cost to be in the NLAS?
There is no cost or annual fees. NLAS charges a ten percent commission on sales.

Do I have to sign a contract?
You must agree to abide by our terms and conditions which cover how sales are to be handled. You are not "under contract" to the NLAS and may sell your work in other venues and leave at any time without obligation.

How do I get paid?
Artists are paid at the end of each month for all sales that have been completed. Sales are not considered completed until the customer receives the artwork. We prefer to pay via paypal. If you do not have a paypal account, a cheque will be mailed to you.

How can I get started?
